Check your refrigerator before calling a technician

Check your refrigerator before calling a technician

Wait!! Before you call a technician to repair your fridge…

Getting your refrigerator repaired from professionals is rather expensive. But one can do many repairs without seeking the experts’ help. Usually occurring problems can be taken care of quickly. Provided that you are willing to spend a bit of time and to follow some instructions.

Inspect wires for loose connection

If you shifted the refrigerator and it refuses to work, in all probability some wire has become loose. You just need to take out the back panel. Unplug the main power cable and inspect all the wires to find out the loosened wire. If you find wires at fault then just tighten it.

Check surrounding temperature

The operation of a refrigerator is also affected by the temperature prevailing in its surroundings. The majority of these machines cannot effectively keep edibles cold if the temperature in its surroundings goes below sixty degrees Fahrenheit. Further, they would often stop working if the same falls below forty degrees. This happens because, with the falling temperature, the frequency at which the compressor starts also falls. So you can shift the machine to some area having a higher temperature, without needing to ask for the services of a technician.

Broken Gasket?

Another common fault that develops with refrigerators is a broken gasket close to its door. If the door is not entirely closed, you’ll be losing electric power. Cracked gaskets need not be replaced at all times, as they can easily be repaired through the application of silicone caulk. Here is how to change the old gasket, if the need arises:

Get a fresh gasket, according to the brand and model of your refrigerator. A gasket is secured in its place with the help of screws and a retainer strip. You need to loosen those screws for taking out the gasket from its position. Then, you put a new gasket instead of the old gasket that you just removed, and start tightening the screws over the corners of the door until all are tightened. Care should be taken not to over-tighten the screws, as this could lead to the cracking of the plastic lining contained in the door.

Locate the fault

Repairing a refrigerator that fails to keep the food cool by maintaining the desired temperature can be challenging. First, you should check the temperature that the refrigerator is maintaining by keeping a thermometer in the middle of its central shelf. This temperature should be from 34 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. You can adjust the refrigerator thermometer to solve the problem, but if that fails to bring the desired result, you should check the fan and the coils of the condenser, which could be blocked at the back or beneath the refrigerator.

Locating the fault is like winning half of the battle. The problem has to be fixed properly. Otherwise, it may worsen the functioning of the fridge. For instance, if the fan or the coils of the condenser need replacement, you should seek the services of an experienced technician, though such replacements generally fall under warranty.
